CONDOLENCE STATEMENT BY KERICHO DEPUTY GOVERNOR, H. E SUSAN KIKWAI (OGW) CONCERNING THE UNFORTUNATE PASSING ON OF FORMER BELGUT ERICK KETER (MLIMANI) ON DECEMBER 4, 2017

The Late Hon. Erick Keter

I learnt with great shock of the sudden passing of Hon Erick Keter, popularly known as Mlimani, the former MP for Belgut Constituency and proprietor of Mlimani Schools, which for long has been one of the shining academic lights in Kericho County.

On behalf of Kericho Governor His Excellency Prof Paul Kiprono Chepkwony and the people of Kericho County, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Hon Keter and assure them of our support as they go through this trying time.

It goes without saying that the late MP left a rich legacy and a lasting mark by which he will forever be remembered by the people of Kericho and the nation of Kenya.

As an astute advocate for education, he served as a teacher for many years as well as an official of the Kenya National Union of Teachers before venturing into private practice by establishing a group of well-performing schools which became his brand.

The schools include Milimani Schools and Matunda Grammar Schools.

Even as MP, his vision for an education-for-all policy led him to setting up the unique model of Belgut Starehe Secondary School which now offers education for well performing students from poor backgrounds in Belgut who would otherwise have had no other opportunity to pursue education due to the high costs involved.

Indeed, it is a school model which should be emulated by other leaders across the country in supporting Jubilee Government’s efforts to educate the nation With the passing of Hon Keter, the farmers of Kericho have lost a brave ally who as MP led efforts from various fronts to ease the burden faced by tea farmers in an effort to ensure that tea farmers are enabled to earn their rightful income.

As the county government, we look forward to working with all other leaders to ensuring that Hon Keter’s dream of a better life for tea farmers and education for all is achieved as soon as possible.

We pray that his Soul Rest in Peace and that God Almighty may cover his family and friends with sufficient grace to weather this great loss.

H.E SUSAN KIKWAI (OGW)
DEPUTY GOVERNOR
