The journey towards attaining our target of planting 100,000 hectares of trees by 2032 in our county, has officially started today at Kiboito wetland in Kapsuser Ward, Belgut Sub County, and concurrently across all our other sub-counties.
Kericho joined the rest of the Country during this public holiday dedicated towards a mass nationwide tree planting exercise with eyes firmly trained on ensuring that we collectively contribute towards the realization of the presidential’s ambitious initiative of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
Kericho has so far planted over 508,000 trees covering a total of 201 hectares in Kericho County, translating to 22% tree cover. Our target is to hit the 30% mark by 2032.
As part of the immediate measures to curb our drying water sources, the Governor took the opportunity to issue a notice that all eucalyptus trees along the river banks be removed and replaced with indigenous tree species.
The Duo was flanked by the County Mp Hon.Beatrice Kemei and a host of senior County and National Officials.
