The County Bursary funds and the Equalizer Vocational Training Scholarship Program were today disbursed at the Kiprugut Chumo stadium in a colorful ceremony graced by various dignitaries.
The special occasion saw the distribution of over 168M in bursaries to over 47000 beneficiaries in Universities, colleges, and special schools.
The occasion also saw the official launch and disbursement of the first cohort of the Equalizer Vocational Training Scholarship Program an 82M fund benefitting 3000 youth 100 per ward acquire skills in Masonry, Plumbing, welding, and tailoring among other skills key in job creation.
In a break from last year,H.E the Governor Dr.Erick Mutai invited special guests to grace the noble occasion including Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthews Owili,Bomet Governor H.E Prof. Hillary Barchok,Nandi Governor H.E Stephen Sang and Siaya Governor H.E James Orengo.Kericho Senator and Senate Majority leader Hon.Aaron Cheruiyot also graced the occasion.
Speaking during the occasion the Governor reiterated his commitment to Equalizing Education opportunities to all noting that the transformative Equalizer Vocational Training Scholarship will create a pool of skilled workers needed to push affordable housing, industrialization, and other government projects in the near future.
The Governor also thanked all the stakeholders from the ward committees to members of the County assembly and the Education Department for working tirelessly and fairly to ensure that the most vulnerable students benefitted.
The County boss also called on beneficiaries of the bursaries to give value for the funds disbursed by completing their education successfully so that they help in building our county and country.
