MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES ENGAGEMENT IN TEA SUB-SECTOR

The journey towards liberating our people from the economic shackles and from the long-standing historical injustices from the multinational companies in our midst has constitutionally begun. This was the rallying statement by Kericho Governor, H.E. Dr. Eric Mutai, while presiding over the unveiling of a taskforce recently appointed to probe the multinational companiesí engagement in tea sub-sector. According to the Governor, the key terms of reference for the 11-member team, will be to come up with recommendations on the social and economic impact of the current and emerging challenges on the residents of Kericho, including but not limited to heavy mechanization of multinationals and other tea sub-sectors. Other areas the taskforce will focus on is the land rates and lease terms for the companies. The taskforce chaired by Retired Captain Richard Too, will have 60 days to carry out the assignment and present their findings and recommendations to the Governor.
